SENIOR DATA SCIENTIST
BASED EDINBURGH / HYBRID WORKING £55-70K DOE PLUS EXCELLENT BENS
Have you ever wanted to work for a company doing something truly incredible, disruptive and working for the greater good of planet Earth? Well, here is your chance. Intelligent Growth Solutions (IGS) was founded in 2013 and has brought together decades of farming and engineering experience to create an Agritech business with a vision to revolutionise the indoor growing market. Employing over 150 staff, IGS is now in full scale up mode with an ambitious recruitment plan to help fuel their commercial growth.
Are you interested in changing the face of farming so that we can feed the world? If so we now need to recruit a Senior Data Scientist who will create data analysis models using multiple statistical methods including AI/ML and computer vision to support cutting-edge, controlled-environment agriculture.
To apply please send a short CV, ideally two pages, plus a covering letter (one page) explaining why you want to work for IGS and where you fit the role profile (below) to our Talent Acquisition Manager Bruce Hydes or apply via our website.
We have converted experimental hardware and software into scalable, maintainable, and extensible enterprise grade product. Using the immense amount of data and images produced by the solution, and by our crop research centre, we are focused on driving crop yield up and maintenance issues down. We need a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Applications team to produce automated production grade models and standalone data collection tools. Key responsibilities include:
Design new analysis plans to answer questions from the Crop Scientists or clients.
Design, prototype and productise new data analysis models/applications built primarily in Python – including computer vision tools.
Champion the use of appropriate AI and ML opportunities in the business.
Study product and operational processes to identify opportunities to add smart features based on data analysis.
Work with Data Engineers to improve your applications and ensure they are production ready.
Gather data from multiple sources including corporate MIS and operational products.
Design and specify tools to capture data directly from Crop Scientists – e.g. yield data – either coupled with the main application or as standalone tools.
Foster a culture of learning and improvement including tech talks
Be a good colleague and display kindness, patience and a commitment to working for the overall team’s benefit.
You have a degree in Maths, Science, or Engineering (or industry equivalent experience of 5+ years). We are looking for experienced Data Scientists who have worked in a private sector or commercial background; some examples might include, utilities, oil and gas, renewables, bio-informatics, medical devices and other agritech product applications. You should be able to lead a small team or coach/mentor junior colleagues.
Core skills required for this role include; strong experience in Data Science programming language (Python/R), SQL manipulation and ETL design skills, high capabilities in AI, ML or similar analysis in proprietary or open-source platforms, exposure to Cloud Computing and CI/CD pipelines (Azure preferred) and basic git skills. You will have experience in converting data models to productised applications and of manipulating time series data.
This represents an incredible opportunity to “give something back” and be part of a culture striving to help feed the world. An excellent base salary (£55-70k DOE) is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package (including 35 days leave, private health care and solid pension) complete with training and self development grants and flexible working solutions
