Software Engineer - Data Science Tech & Data Science Limejump Ltd.
About Limejump Optimising a 100% renewable energy future is our vision.
Limejump is a technology platform that manages a large renewable energy network. Our portfolio delivers clean energy to businesses and homes, using renewables and stored energy when it's needed to meet demand.
We connect and manage 100% renewable energy through the intelligent control of renewable generators, such as wind turbines and solar panels. We work closely with renewable asset owners, buying their energy and then selling it onto the UK's grid, giving them simple access to the power market. But, the sun isn't always shining and the wind isn't always blowing. We must therefore capture energy for times when there is high demand. By harnessing big data and renewable technology, we accelerate the UK's transition to net zero carbon emissions.
The RoleLimejump seeks a Software Engineer to work with our Data Science team and help us change the world of energy. Data Science is pivotal in achieving Limejump's vision of 'Optimising a 100% renewable energy future', and machine learning underpins a variety of critical processes and systems across the Limejump estate.
We're looking for someone excited about both green energy and computer science to help scale and expand our Data Science capabilities across the generation forecasting and dispatch optimisation problem domains. Sitting in the Data Science team itself you'll be responsible for contributing to, and helping to lead the architecture, design and delivery of solutions used to accurately forecast renewable generation over different time horizons, optimise grid-sized batteries in response to changing market and grid conditions, and detect performance issues across a variety of energy generation assets.
Your contribution would be more than just code: our technology function develops its architecture by consensus, so you'd be informing design decisions from day one. We also have a culture of mentorship across the company, so you'd be expected to help others in advancing your skills while also having the opportunity to learn from engineers more experienced than yourself.
What you'll do:
Develop and maintain a machine learning platform capable of scaling to thousands of models and forecasts across a range of granularities and horizons.
Empower the Data Science team by building tools and services to help deliver Data Science projects to production.
Ensure these services reliably support our critical forecasting and optimization processes.
Set standards for engineering and documentation, and mentor your peers on both the Data Science team and across the wider Technology function.
Liaise with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and external stakeholders in order to design and build scalable solutions that balance technical purity with feasibility and practicality.
What we need from you - Essential Skills:
Practical experience productionising machine learning models or optimisation algorithms.
Excellent technical skills. Proven ability to write and maintain software, adhering to and advocating for software development best practices.
3+ years experience using Python for data science purposes within data-intensive environments; ideally in the energy, tech, finance or consumer goods sector.
Experience with public cloud and containerisation technology, preferably AWS and Docker.
Experience with Machine Learning SaaS platforms, preferably Databricks/MLFlow.
Strong problem solving and communication skills.
Familiarity with time series machine learning and forecasting techniques.
Familiarity with constraint-based optimisation such as mixed integer linear programming.
Knowledge of Kubernetes and infrastructure as code.
Energy industry experience.
Degree or higher in a technical subject, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc.
Competitive pay and an annual performance based bonus.
Private Medical Insurance with AXA PPP with £0 annual excess.
25 days annual leave...and one extra day for your birthday.
£1k annual innovation budget to spend on self development coupled with 10% time off work to do it.

Mental wellbeing support with Mental Health First Aiders and Employee Assistance Programme.
Company wide lunch n learns, culturally diverse celebrations and other social events.
Parental leave - up to 12 weeks paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave.
Subsidised onsite gym membership and weekly fitness classes.
