Principal Engineer - Strategic Systems
Business Unit: Submarine Support Engineering
Location: Bristol - Hybrid working
Salary: competitive £53,000 - £60,000 (dependant on experience) with benefits
This is a new and exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Engineering Lead to assume a key role in our client's contribution to the Submarine Strategic Weapons (SW) Enterprise. You will directly contribute to Naval Operations, whilst representing our client in a key position. You'll deliver engineering support to Submarine Nuclear deterrent operations through a customer focused, collaborative and integrated approach as part of a Portfolio Team embedded in the SDA.
How you'll play your part
The principal focus of your role is to represent CSSE programmes and activity review and strike a balance between data analysis, stakeholder engagement and management of risk. You will be expected, based on programme and policy knowledge to identify and deliver engineering / programme definition in support of CSSE interests and key activities. The role will provide individual project management oversight of some of the most significant and technically complex engineering activities in the submarine domain including:
Provide specialist in-service support and advice to CSSE through inputting data and conducting analysis in MS Excel and Primavera P6.
Conduct programme analysis across the Portfolio.
Support risk analysis and to progress risk characterisation studies.
Apply engineering and project management domain knowledge towards producing technical solutions for delivery of products and services.
Contribute to process improvements within the concept, assessment, design and operational lifecycles of submarines and their supporting MOD programmes and projects.
Involvement in strategic studies (e.g. Sensitivity Analysis of Submarine Programme, Docking Capacity Studies etc.).
Input to MOD Working Groups and Boards as requiredThe experience you'll bring
You'll need a minimum Level 6 qualification in an engineering / science discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience.
We would also like you to hold experience in the following:
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
* Project Management (e.g. APM)
* Working with multi-disciplinary teams
* Experience in customer-facing roles and working in the MoD / Industry Strategic Weapons Enterprise
* Leading or contributing to programming activities and development, including strategic thinking
The successful candidate will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance. As you will be working with US information supplied under the Polaris Sales Agreement (PSA) the post holder will have to be a sole UK national to meet US criteria
Lastly you'll need to have worked with safety-critical systems, and have change control/change management experience within projects and strategic systems knowledge for submarines.
