We are currently recruiting for an IT Network and Security Engineer to join our IT team and provide network and security expertise to help make sure our networks remain reliable, secure, and operating at peak efficiency.

What will you be doing in this role?

In this key role, you will work with our IT team and external service providers to deliver network and security enhancements and provide 3rd line support of Tunstall’s IT network infrastructure and security prevention and detection systems. By delivering a network that is reliable, secure, and operating at peak efficiency you will help our business continue to deliver life changing and lifesaving technology and services for our all-important customers.

The Ideal candidate:

You will have good communication skills, both verbal and written, able to identify and resolve problems, be proactive and organised in your approach. You will be CCNP certified (particularly routing & switching, wireless, and security), proficient in network configuration and administration. You will have proven experience of providing 3rd line support, troubleshooting a range of WAN/LAN technologies and be proficient with network protocols. An understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, protocols, and experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management and content filtering is vital to the success of this role.

Key skills and experience:

Essential –

CCNP certified – particularly routing & switching, wireless, security,

Proven experience in 3rd line, 24/7 support of network technologies,

Proficient in Network configuration and administration,

Experience troubleshooting a range of LAN/WAN technologies - xDSL, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, LEASED LINES, HSRP, VLAN, WLAN etc,

Cisco switch, router and ASA firewall experience including multiple contexts and HA,

Proficient with network protocols and networking technologies and with system, security, and network monitoring tools,

Understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols,

Experience in security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, anti-virus software, authentication systems, log management, content filtering,

Working knowledge of security devices, tools, and service providers,

Experience working with Tier1 network providers,

Experience defining and implementing network solutions for internal and external customers.

Desirable -

Familiar with ITIL processes for IT service management,

Working knowledge of modern telephony/VOIP technologies,

Experience in Azure and AWS including firewall configuration,

Familiarity with public cloud connectivity issues,

Experience with local or national government connectivity standards.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Implement and administer VLAN, WLAN, WAN, VoIP, and the network components of cloud architecture,

Establish an appropriate data and voice network to support IT service,

Design and implement new solutions to meet the needs of a changing business, working alongside service providers,

Ensure network performance is maintained through monitoring and appropriate processes,

Troubleshooting network problems and outages,

Configure and troubleshoot network & security infrastructure devices,

Lead on data and voice connectivity aspects of customer projects,

Implement and administer perimeter and internal network security systems such as Firewalls and IDS/IPS in on-premise, Azure, AWS,

Own the network administration ensuring proper controls in place,

Manage and monitor IPS/IDS, Firewalls and other network components engaged in security and regulatory processes,

Ensure compliance to industry best practice and gain/maintain accreditation including ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus,

Work with the Infrastructure team to build and transition services from Project to Operations,

Liaise with the Operations team regarding:

network troubleshooting, network patches and security updates processes and procedures,

auditing of the network to ensure hardware and user base are correctly recorded in control databases,

routine tasks associated with operating and controlling the installed network hardware and software,

Produce appropriate and comprehensive network diagrams and documentation,

Prepare and document standard operating procedures,

Ensure security incidents are monitored, tracked, timely root cause analyses performed, and proposals made for further system security enhancement,

Maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of information systems through compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations.
