It’s a whisky business choosing your next company.
The rise of remote work means DevOps Engineers have many choices nowadays, so it’s a perfect time to get a better job. So, what could that look like for you?
You want your toil to matter; helping a company maximise automation and supporting a 40-strong tech team to deliver a 22 million user e-commerce system, plus over 60 internal/external products, is a start.
You don’t want a stuffy, corporate environment; you’d prefer an anti-corporate employer that accepts you for who you are without hamstringing you with pointless rules and processes.
Enjoy remote working and unlimited holidays, so your work fits around your life.
Lastly, you want to sink your teeth into something juicy; for example, in your first six months as a DevOps engineer, you’ll lead a close-knit six-person team writing Infrastructure as Code, enhancing their Terraform coverage and choosing the right availability monitoring tech (They are trying Zabbix, but it’s still early days).
They’re also keen to start an API gateway project, which you can get stuck into, to improve the public-facing API performance.
You’ll get more autonomy than you’re used to, and you’ll feel like a pirate enjoying the freedom of the open sea with 300 others at this disruptive, global drinks group, sticking two fingers up to conventional wisdom.
They produce world-beating spirits brands, have a prize-winning distribution agency, and the jewel in their crown is the UK’s premier alcohol e-commerce website.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
You’re a Lead DevOps Engineer with team management experience who can administer servers in your sleep.
You don’t mind a bit of risk: you love getting deep into the weeds to solve problems, and you care about doing quality work.
· Developing and improving CI/CD pipelines is your bread and butter (They use TeamCity, Octopus Deploy and GitHub Actions, but they’re vendor agnostic and are happy to hear your suggestions).
· You’ll know about containerisation using Docker/Kubernetes.
· You know IaC using tools like Terraform and Ansible to deploy platforms for hosting applications in a clean and repeatable way.
· You’ll be happy working with mostly Azure, but some AWS and Google Cloud
