IT Solutions Consultant

Our client’s core business is IT networking and infrastructure implementation and support, including procurement and resale of most mainstream IT hardware and software products. From their offices on the edge of the City of London, they provide services for a wide range of clients that operate in a diverse spectrum of industries. Some of them are part of large multi-national corporations, while others are privately-owned businesses with no dedicated internal IT function of their own.
The opportunity:
This is a hands-on highly technical role, entailing consulting with technical and non-technical clients to determine requirements and be responsible for architecting and delivering highly complex solutions across a range of core infrastructure technologies in a professional and detailed way commensurate with that expected of a highly qualified subject matter expert. The Consultant will take responsibility for the personal delivery of both customer facing project work and support and hosting services, providing a high level of both external customer and internal support for the company’s own systems. Reporting into the Head of Operations the Consultant will provide technical expertise and a high level of customer service to all the company’s clients. It is anticipated that when not engaged on presales, consultancy or engineering activity, the consultant will provide senior support for our clients through the coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer to other members of the support and consultancy team.
Accountabilities & Activities:
* Consult at senior business executive, IT management and IT technical levels including appropriate articulate presentation skills.
* Design and deliver complex customer facing infrastructure solutions in a proficient and customer focused manner.
* To author, update, peer review and otherwise maintain accurate and complete professional documentation including proposals, statement of work, high level and low-level designs, configuration documents procedures and all other applicable documents as required
* Continual personal technical development within core and complimentary infrastructure technologies and to attend all relevant training to attain vendor, product or other professional certification.
* Provide input in defining and developing best practices for all aspects of service delivery including business need assessments, technical requirements, service approach, deployment, testing and documentation.
* Be instrumental in the development of Presentations, Solution Briefs, White Papers, Customer Case Studies and other collateral material to promote the company's virtualisation support services.
* Assist in driving the development and enhancement of the company’s service offerings.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills Required:
* 5+ years in an implementation, engineering or consulting role
* Excellent communication and customer facing skills. .
* Experience consulting with external customers or equivalent up to board level.
* Proven experience of architecting and designing infrastructure solution projects.
* Proven experience of delivering complex core infrastructure solutions.
* Knowledge of the key industry vendors.
* Analytical and innovative approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
* Strong & engaging presentation skills with the ability to articulate technical aspects clearly.
Essential skills:
* Microsoft Modern Workplace (365) and Azure implementation, migration, design & support experience with appropriate relevant certification
* Cisco Enterprise Networking and Data Centre implementation & design experience, ideally CCNA or CCNP level certification
* Strong Cisco security services e.g., Umbrella, AMP, DUO implementation & design skills and experience
* Server and desktop hardware architectures and systems – HP, Cisco UCS, Dell
* Strong Storage architecture and implementation experience ideally in NetApp, HP or Nimble
* Backup, DR & BC architectures, and best practices
* Strong Microsoft server and desktop operating systems i.e., Windows Server 2008 to 2022, Windows 7 to 11 skill and experience
Desirable / Advantageous Technical Skills
* VMware VCP certification of equivalent skills and experience
* Public Cloud (Azure or AWS) experience or certification
* Linux and UNIX operating systems and architectures.
* Apple Mac operating systems and architectures.
* Compliance and security related products i.e. firewall, intrusion detention, anti-virus, SIEM
* Desktop virtualisation solutions i.e. VMware View / Horizon, Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop etc.
* ITIL Foundation
