As a Senior Lead Software Engineer in the Engineers, eXperience and Platforms (EPX) organization at JPMorgan Chase, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Drive significant business impact through your capabilities and contributions, and apply deep technical expertise and problem-solving methodologies to tackle a diverse array of challenges that span multiple technologies and applications.
Job responsibilities - Engineering observability solutions for the public cloud will require the successful candidate to draw upon both their knowledge of the major platforms, initially Amazon Web Services (AWS), and their experience building opinionated, pre-configured tools that can remove friction for other engineering teams.
- Taking your understanding of the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) mindset you will help design tools that meet the needs of this community. Understanding how to build it and run it is important.
- Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
- Drives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Serves as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more areas of focus
- Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Adds to the team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills - Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced in one or more programming language(s)
- Experience working within a team where there is a focus on quality in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including peer review, testing, and automated deployment into a cloud environment
- Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight
- The candidate will have a good all-round understanding of AWS fundamentals such as compute, networking, storage, security policies and how to build & deploy applications into the eco-system. In addition, areas of particular interest would be observability tooling: CloudWatch as well as tooling such as CloudTrails, X-Ray and Identity and Access Management (IAM).
- Experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills - A strong desire to focus on continuous learning and experience new technologies whatever stage of career they are at
- Hands on experience of Terraform Enterprise, particularly for automating the deployment of infrastructure to AWS environments
- Can demonstrate how to build secure applications, using tools to identify and remediate vulnerabilities and use modern techniques to control access to applications and APIs
- Experience of presenting to other engineers on proposed designs and approaches
