Tanzu Mission control (TMC) is a new cloud service that is part of the VMware Tanzu Portfolio, which provides enterprises a single pane of glass for all their Kubernetes clusters on any cloud, and enables them to develop and manage the modern application lifecycle.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
The TMC Data and Integration Platform team within TMC Core services is composed of two teams: Data Services team and Integration Platform team. The Data Services team is responsible for building a platform to stream, process, visualize, and draw intelligence from all the data collected from Kubernetes clusters managed by TMC.The team also works on coming up with components to migrate the data between tenants.The Integration Platform team is responsible for expanding TMC core services by integrating with other products in the Tanzu portfolio.The overall mission of the team is to enable capabilities to support Tanzu kubernetes platform.
We need someone who can collaborate with product management and engineering teams to design, develop, test, release and operate cloud services that provide top notch user experiences with high scalability and availability.You will actively participate in design discussion,work on task estimation and contribute towards the delivery of sprint goals.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
You will implement modules in microservices in Go language. Your code needs to have readability, extensibility and good quality.
You will write unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality.
You will be expected to showcase your ability to troubleshoot and mitigate issues in production.
You will first be guided in completing projects. With the growth of your experience, you will be expected to independently solve problems and complete projects.
You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Most of your time will be spent writing high-quality code with excellent code coverage using Go. You can expect to be the owner and take accountability for the quality of your code.
Under the guidance of senior team members, you will have opportunities to improve your system design and component design skills.
You will collaborate with teammates to solve problems during service development lifecycle.
You will collaborate with other functions such as program management, QE engineers, and SRE engineers to improve the product.
You will take on-call responsibilities to ensure smooth operation of microservices this team owns.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Chris Schaefer who manages the TMC Local team within TMC core services. The mission of the team is to build an on-prem version of the Tanzu Mission Control SaaS platform.The team also supports the integration of TMC components with other internal products within the Tanzu portfolio. Chris Schaefer first joined VMware in 2012 and has been in the Cloud and Software industry for the past 25 years.
