Senior IT Support Engineer
Role:
To be responsible for supporting and maintaining Windows and Linux systems. The job holder will play a key role in ensuring the IT Department delivers an efficient, reliant and rapid support service across the organisation.
Reporting to the IT Manager, the ideal candidate must be able to adapt quickly to changing requirements or priorities and where necessary divert to assist other teams/projects. In addition, they should have a track record of delivering excellent customer service and effective IT solutions to the users. They are looking for someone who is a team player, proactive, diligent in following requests, and who is confident in dealing with people, with experience in Linux and network management.
This is a varied role, here are some of the things you will get the chance to do:
Support remote users and remote services. Setting up, maintaining and documenting VPN and FTP links when requested.
Support and maintain Windows, Linux systems as well as maintain and develop the companies HPC environment.
Support and maintain network and mobile device security and access to appropriate resources.
Monitoring of file and folder access application and firewalls and reporting concerns to the IT Manager.
Assist with the design services and applications with the IT Manager, ensuring that they meet the technical and business requirements of the organisation.
Document and establish the final release configuration of services and applications, including updates to service and applications. Build the release; testing it and updating documentation.
Establish and reporting outstanding known errors and workarounds and recommending permanent resolutions to issues and problems.
Provide input to support change authorisation for check-in of the release.
Ensure all work requests are logged in the IT management information system (MIS)
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
Experience working in a similar role or industry (Example: IT infrastructure and IT Systems working environment). Ideally in an IT customer focused environment
HND or equivalent in IT /Computing or an IT related degree
Microsoft Applications and Linux experience
Working knowledge of supporting remote workers
Knowledge and experience of network Management
Able to work under little supervision / confident to raise issues and possible solutions
Desirable:
Microsoft certification
Network certification
ITIL foundation
Worked in IT security sectors and awareness of an IT Security environment
