As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be:
Defining the standards for the Engineering community. You lead the adoption of best practices across teams and projects to deliver the very best quality of software products.
Be an enabler for multiple teams, driving consistency, standards, pace and quality, resolving technical blockers, and promoting re-use and collaboration through the wider community.
Influencing our future vision for delivery. Using your knowledge, skills and experience in the software engineering field you'll steer the focus, process and outcome of projects, as well as engaging with the engineering community at large to excite and encourage innovation.
Diving into hands-on engineering where necessary. You'll put your knowledge to good use and leading by example, but day-to-day your focus will be to lead strategically, setting the direction for the team and the wider engineering capability.
Your essential skills and experience:
You're an expert in in your craft, with extensive knowledge and experience in open-source technologies like Java, Javascript and Node.js. as well as development in cloud-based environments such as AWS and Azure.
Working in Test Driven Development (TDD) environments currently, and using SQL and noSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB.
Experience leading multiple teams and driving changes in technology and ways of working - sharing best practices across wider projects, teams and departments, and building strong stakeholder relationships.
Have the skills to build robust automated testing suites to support a continuous deployment environment and champion the use of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures.

You'll be based in your choice of one of our brilliant digital hubs in London, Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.
We also have all the tools and tech to work flexibly. We operate a hybrid working model. You can expect to work from home 60% of the time.
We offer competitive pay of up to £89,995 per annum.
You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 27.9 to 30.3%, worth as much as £23,555 a year.
You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising to 31 over time. Plus, all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi leave.
