The mission of the Network Infrastructure (NI) Business Group is to be the most trusted partner for the world's most critical network infrastructure. NI will respond to the ever-increasing demand for networks with higher capacity, greater reliability, faster speeds, and lower costs.

The pandemic has highlighted how important telecoms networks are to society. Nokia's Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise.

Currently, the ION R&D Planning tools group is looking for a Test Engineer to work on the testing and test automation of a Web Application used to define and deploy Optical Networks.

This role requires someone who is passionate about testing and well-crafted automation, with the goal of building, improving, and maintaining a reliable and easy to use test infrastructure. To be successful in the role proficiency in Python, a deep understanding of Optical Networks and Linux environments are needed.

What you will learn and contribute to

• Analyze requirements to perform test planning, development and execution on the project
• Create and maintain automated test suites (Python)
• Analyze test results to open issues and follow the full issue lifecycle including collaborating with developers to create reproducible scenarios, testing and creating automated regressions.
• Work on the test infrastructure to resolve issues, to extend its capabilities and to make testing easier for the whole team
• Report frequently and concisely (daily stand-up meetings) about the status of the assigned tasks.
• Interact daily with a development team spread across three time-zones (Italy / US / India) to gather the necessary information to solve issues and move the assigned tasks forward.

Your skills and experience

• A M.S. in optics, physics, telecommunication or electrical engineering.
• Proficiency with Python (A personal project to look at or contribution to any open source one would be ideal)
• Exposure to optical technologies / protocols: DWDM, CWDM, SONET, OTN, Ethernet, IP, GMPLS is highly required
• Good understanding of basic concepts underlying a client/server application (UI/REST API) is highly required
• Experience in working with version control systems (Git / Feature Branches / Merge requests)
• Passion for optics, networking, testing and quality in general, including a high attention to details.
• Fluent in English with good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and proactively within a team meeting the project deadlines
• Exposure to testing frameworks such as Pytest and Selenium is a plus
• Exposure to any Continuous Integration system such as Jenkins is a plus
• Experience in working with Linux in bash and writing simple bash scripts is a plus
• Experience with bug reporting tool as Atlassian JIRA is a plus
