About the team

The Worldwide Payment Gateway (WPG) DBA team has 5 x DBAs located in our Cambridge and India offices and is part of the wider WPG support team of 50 x engineers. We employ Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to consistently improve the stability and reliability of our eCommerce platform and its underpinning databases. There is a great collaboration spirit in the team as we continually mentor and cross train each other to ensure everyone succeeds.

What you will be doing

• You will be managing and maintaining the Oracle database environments across test and production
• You will proactively identify and implement improvements to help our operational duties
• You will partake in the team 24/7 on-call function on a rotating basis
• You will provide QA validation for database designs and code written by developers
• Identify improvements and close gaps on our team knowledge base repository
• You will help set up new database environments for our dev/test colleagues
• You will be involved in troubleshooting and investigation production system problems

What you bring:

5+ years of experience in a working environment with these technologies:

• Oracle Database 12c
• Oracle Database 19c
• Database performance tuning
• Oracle Golden Gate
• Oracle RAC, RMAN, Data Guard, ASM and Grid Control
• Linux
• SQL & PL/SQL development skills
• UNIX shell scripting

5+ years of experience in a working environment in these areas:

• Proven experience in supporting Oracle databases in a highly available complex production environment
• Database performance tuning, understanding plans, tablescans, and how to optimise for greater performance
• Experience investigating I/O issues and working with infrastructure teams to resolve
• Experience designing and developing test small/medium technical improvement changes with little or no supervision to ensure systems are reliable and fit for purpose
• Carrying out investigations and analysis into complex problems in order to provide solutions for the business
• Experience implementing automation for database operational duties
• Proven experience with database upgrade projects delivered to time and budget
• Experience of database design in large database systems
• Experience performing RAC DB rolling patching and raising SR for patches
• Experience with database security and auditing
• Creating technical documentation
• Mentoring junior staff to help with their technical development
• Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Added bonus if you have:

• ITIL familiarisation
• Experience of online payments and the finance industry
• Exposure to PCI-DSS / SOX
