Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities):
The British Embassy in Madrid, Spain, is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking to recruit an
Information and Technology Support Officer based in Embassy Madrid. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service whilst meeting the diverse requirements of IT security and systems integrity. We are looking for a highly professional individual, flexible, well organised and adept at juggling competing demands, as well as being able to manage customer and central IT department expectations.
Roles and responsibilities:- Proactively maintain and support the Information and Communications Technology infrastructure and client systems in line with security procedures in Madrid and the wider Spain Network;
- Carry out system monitoring, problem resolution and manage the IT incident escalation procedures (to FCDO 2nd-3rd level support/and or external suppliers);
- Coordinate technological deployments and upgrades;
- Coordinate IT asset management;
- Setup remote management for client systems;
- Support video-conferencing and hybrid meetings for internal and external events;
- Produce high quality communications and IT user guides in English and Spanish for users at all levels;
- Proactively strive to improve the quality of service and provide sound technical solutions taking into account diverse customer needs and security requirements;
- Create and maintain a positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of with stakeholders;
- Occasionally work additional hours (including weekends) and travel as required to Spain Consular posts;
- Carry out physical duties - lifting equipment, install cabling and connections throughout office i.e. under desks, in patch cabinets and server rooms.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Excellent English and Spanish (C level according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);
- A recognised IT qualification, i.e. European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or ITIL;
- Valid Driving licence;
- Fine attention to detail and strong analytical skills;
- Good IT and networking skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft products: MS Windows 10/11 & MS Office 365 (including MS Sharepoint, PowerBI, Lists, Forms, etc.);
- LAN design and WIFI networks integrating security (Firewall configuration, etc);
- Hardware skills: able to change printer/workstation components as well as troubleshooting general hardware issues.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Qualifications: CompTIA A+ and Networks+;
- Experience in Telephony and VoIP;
- Experience working in data centres and internet circuit installation.

This is a full-time permanent contract. Normal working hours are 37.5 per week. The British Embassy Madrid supports and promotes flexible working as a crucial part of our inclusive offering.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.
